Some longleaf pine trees shedding needles is normal this time of year

Some longleaf pine trees are already beginning to shed their needles across the sandhills and coastal plain, a normal response to drought and high temperatures this time of year, according to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources. In most years, the annual ‘needlecast’ takes place closer to fall.
