Columbia, SC— South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Jaime Harrison issued the following statement on the victories of the candidates in tonight’s SC Senate District 45 Primary.
Congratulations to the winners of today’s Primary Election, Margie Bright Matthews and Rep. Kenneth Hodges. They both are excellent candidates to carry on Senator Clementa Pinckney’s legacy of social justice and community service in the Statehouse. I look forward to working with the winner of the September 15 Run-off Election to make sure Democrats keep this seat and continue Sen. Pinckney’s work in Columbia.
“To the candidates who did not win, thank you for your participation. Running for office is a labor of love for the people and communities you represent. You have made your families, your communities, and your party very proud.”
