South Carolina also has six unpledged Delegates who are DNC members, Party Officers, former DNC Chairman and Congressman Jim Clyburn for a total delegation of 63 Delegates.
Among the 179 candidates, the diversity of the Democratic Party is obvious with at least 19 youth candidates, 20 veterans, 14 LGBT candidates, 4 Hispanic candidates, 51 senior candidates and 18 disabled persons running for these positions. There are 137 Clinton supporters running for 42 positions and 42 Sanders candidates running for 15 positions.
In keeping with the SC Democratic Party values and stated goals for the delegate selection process, the SCDP will make every effort to meet the Affirmative Action goals as outlined in the SCDP Delegate Selection Plan. The SCDP goals reflect the demographic composition of South Carolina Democrats.
Below is a breakdown by candidate, gender and category:
|At Large Alternate||
6 Unpledged Delegates
1. The gender division of At-Large delegates and alternates will be determined after the PLEO delegates are elected.
2. PLEO Delegates are not divided evenly between genders but both women and African Americans must be included in each candidate’s delegates.
3. Unpledged Delegates in SC include 2 African American males and 1 African American female and 2 Caucasian males and 1 Caucasian female.
In keeping with the goals of inclusiveness and the rules of the delegate selection process, the party has set the following demographic goals for the ultimate composition of our convention delegation— determined by demographic percentages within the Democratic electorate in South Carolina:
